Delivery & ordering — what to expect

Truck capacity

A standard ready-mix truck typically carries around 6m³. Larger pours may need multiple loads or a pump, which most suppliers can arrange.

Site access

Trucks need reasonable width, headroom and turning space to reach the pour location. Tight or restricted access should be flagged when you order.

Lead time

Ready-mix is usually ordered a day or two ahead, though this varies by supplier and demand — confirm current lead times when you enquire.

Weather

Very hot, cold or wet conditions can affect curing and placement. Your supplier can advise on additives or timing if conditions are marginal.

Frequently asked questions

Most jobs allow 5–10% for spillage, uneven ground and formwork tolerance — this calculator defaults to 10%, which you can adjust above.
Most ready-mix suppliers apply a minimum load charge, often somewhere around 1–1.5m³. Exact minimums and small-load surcharges vary, so confirm with your chosen supplier.
As general guidance: light foot traffic after roughly 24–72 hours, light vehicles after about a week, and full design strength typically around 28 days — always confirm timings for your specific mix with the supplier.
Yes, pumping is common where access is difficult or the pour is some distance from where the truck can park. Ask your supplier whether pumping is available and what it costs.
